Motion to Amend the Laws of the Society

Placed on notice during Private Business on the 25th of January 2023, to be voted on during Private Business on the 1st of March 2023 and the 15th of March 2023. Passed unanimously on both votes.

To amend the Laws of the Society by inserting a new law into Chapter 5 in law 10 between subsections VII and VIII:

A “Speech in a Debate of the Society” or “speak” can be defined as the following

1. Any speech in a public business meeting, including floor speeches

2. Any appointed role in the Records and Libraries debate

3. Any speech in a derby of rhetoric

4. Judging at least one round of a Schools’ Debating Competition, convened by the Librarian. You may only get a maximum of one speak from this category.

5. Competing in enough rounds of an Internal Competition during the preceding session. Internal Competitions include The Rosaleen Mills Maiden Speakers Competition, The “Harneys” Women’s Competition, The “Wolfe Tones” Impromptu Competition, The “Grattans” Historical Motions Competition, and The “Freshers Masters” Competition. You may only get a maximum of one speak from this category.
